I’ve never been one to assume things will go exactly as planned.

Growing up in a small town, watching storms roll in and power lines drop like twigs, I learned early on that the folks who fared best were the ones with backup plans those who could pivot without panic, act without waiting for help, and sleep through a blackout knowing their food wouldn’t spoil and their home wouldn’t freeze.That’s what this site is about.

Ground Ready isn’t for doomsday thrill-seekers or armchair theorists. It’s for real people, parents, workers, teachers, farmers, retirees who understand that when trouble shows up, it rarely knocks first. These books, merchandise, and workshops are practical, direct, and built on the assumption that your life is worth protecting, and your home is worth preparing.

Ground Ready was built by veterans, responders, and instructors who know the field — because we’ve lived it. Our books, tools, and workshops reflect decades of combined experience in leadership, field medicine, survival skills, and readiness training.

Founder

Orrin J Knutson

Orrin J. Knutson isn’t just a trainer, he’s someone who’s lived what he teaches. With decades of experience in law enforcement, private security, and emergency response, Orrin brings a no-nonsense approach to skills that save lives. From managing hundreds of security personnel to leading firearm and first aid courses, his work has always focused on what works in the real world.

He holds a Master’s in Adult Education and has designed training programs for agencies, schools, and individuals across the Pacific Northwest. But it’s not just about credentials, it’s about making complex skills simple, useful, and worth remembering.

Whether he’s writing about home apothecaries, survival prep, or self-defense, Orrin’s goal is the same: give people the tools to take care of themselves and those they love. His books are built from the ground up—with the same clarity and grit he brings to the field.
